The Extended Drill Sleeves are specialized orthopedic instruments designed to provide an extended guide configuration for compatible drilling and fracture-reduction applications. The sleeves are available in four size combinations: 2.4/1.8 mm, 2.7/2.0 mm, 3.5/2.5 mm, and 4.5/4.0 mm.

Each configuration has the same overall dimensions, including a 6.875" (17.6 cm) overall length, 4.875" (12.4 cm) handle length, 2.25" (5.7 cm) guide tube length, and 30° guide angle from the handle.

The system is designed to help protect surrounding soft tissue during compatible drilling applications and can also serve as a reduction aid when a compatible Kirschner wire is placed through the sleeve.

Available Configurations

2.4/1.8 mm Extended Drill Sleeve

The 2.4/1.8 mm configuration features a 6.875" (17.6 cm) overall length, 4.875" (12.4 cm) handle length, and 2.25" (5.7 cm) guide tube. The guide angle from the handle is 30°.

2.7/2.0 mm Extended Drill Sleeve

The 2.7/2.0 mm configuration has the same 6.875" (17.6 cm) overall length, 4.875" (12.4 cm) handle length, and 2.25" (5.7 cm) guide tube. The guide angle is 30°.

3.5/2.5 mm Extended Drill Sleeve

The 3.5/2.5 mm configuration also measures 6.875" (17.6 cm) overall, with a 4.875" (12.4 cm) handle and 2.25" (5.7 cm) guide tube. It has a 30° guide angle.

4.5/4.0 mm Extended Drill Sleeve

The 4.5/4.0 mm configuration is the new size and is sold separately rather than included in the three-piece set. It maintains the same 6.875" (17.6 cm) overall length, 4.875" (12.4 cm) handle length, 2.25" (5.7 cm) guide tube, and 30° guide angle.

Serrated Tip Design

The Extended Drill Sleeves feature serrated tips designed to provide grip when the sleeve is used in compatible drilling and fracture-reduction applications. The serrated configuration forms part of the working-end design.

Reduction Aid Configuration

The sleeve can be used as a reduction aid with placement of a compatible Kirschner wire through the sleeve. This configuration is intended to assist with controlled instrument positioning during compatible orthopedic applications.

Drill Compatibility

The different sleeve sizes provide corresponding guide configurations for compatible drill sizes. The image also illustrates that the sleeve can accommodate an appropriately sized drill through its guide pathway.

Soft-Tissue Protection

The extended drill sleeve configuration is designed to help protect soft tissues around the drilling area during compatible applications. Its extended length provides additional reach compared with shorter sleeve configurations.

Surgical Applications

The Extended Drill Sleeves are designed for compatible orthopedic drilling, fracture-reduction, and fixation applications where a guided sleeve is required.

Selection should be based on the compatible drill and wire dimensions, intended procedure, and applicable surgical technique.

Handling and Use Considerations

Select the appropriate sleeve size according to the compatible drilling system and required dimensions. The serrated tip, guide tube, and handle should be inspected before use to ensure they remain in suitable condition.

Use should follow the applicable surgical technique and manufacturer's instructions.

Cleaning and Instrument Care

After use, clean the sleeve according to validated instrument-processing procedures. Particular attention should be given to the guide tube, serrated tip, and internal guide pathway to ensure they are free from retained material.

Inspect the sleeve for obstruction, deformation, wear, or other damage before subsequent processing or use.

Sterilization and Inspection

Inspect the instrument for cleanliness and structural integrity before use. Confirm that the guide pathway remains unobstructed and that the serrated tip has not been damaged.

Sterilization should be performed according to the manufacturer's validated instructions and applicable healthcare facility protocols.
